The scope of this article is limited to outlining the differences between the two AWS services. Secrets Manager is managed, tightly integrated with other AWS services, monitoring, auditing and fine grained access control.

A service need not to be open-sourced to ‘prove’ it’s security capabilities. AWS Secrets Manager helps our customers maintain their SOC compliance, PCI DSS, HIPAA and ISO requirements.
